Speed Limiter Explained

A speed limiter is a device that limits a vehicle's top speed. They are statutory for some vehicle classes and jurisdictions, while others have non-statutory systems provided by manufacturers.

Types of Speed Limiters:

  • Adjustable Speed Limiters: Allow the driver to set a maximum speed.

  • Intelligent Speed Limiters: Use GPS to detect and adhere to local speed limits.

Comparison with Cruise Control:

  • Speed Limiter: Prevents the vehicle from exceeding a set speed. Full control is retained by the driver, but the vehicle will not accelerate beyond the set speed unless the accelerator is pressed hard in specific situations.

  • Cruise Control: Maintains a specific speed set by the driver, adjusting the power as needed.
